Nature in Southern and Eastern Europe – Diversity, State and Governance(NISEE)

On behalf of the Organizing and Scientific Committees, it is my pleasure to invite you to participate in the First International Conference "Nature in Southern and Eastern Europe – Diversity, State and Governance".

The Conference will take place on September 26-30, 2018, in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The details on the registration, plan of work, due dates, abstract-sending procedures and works are available on

The scope of the Conference is to gather scientists and practicionists in the field of research, monitoring and governing nature in Southern and Eastern Europe, coming from different social environments. The goal of the conference is to raise awareness on the natural values of this part of Europe, and point out the necessity of connecting science and different policies in the process of decision making.

A large number of countries in Southern and Eastern Europe are in the state of social and economic transition. Current social processes leave their mark on the state of nature, including changes in structure and area of ecosystems, changes in the size and health of the population, and changes on the level of genetical diversity. A need to document an innate richness in biodiversity as well as the changes in its state, and to develop optimal models of management have set the organization of this conference into motion.

The Conference will mark the memory of the work and life of academician Sulejman Redžić, botanist, ecologist and founder of the Center for Ecology and Natural Resources of the Faculty of Science, University of Sarajevo.

We sincerely hope that the Conference will be used for efficient exchange of information, prolific discussion, and the very necessary process of networking and strengthening of our interconnections.

With pride on the knowledges inherited from our predecessors, we hope that this conference will take it a step further in recognizing the value of, the preservation and sustainable use of biodiversity of Southern and Eastern Europe.
